You work hard. You show up. You give a lot of yourself to the people and things that matter to you. And still, underneath it all, there is a voice that tells you it is not enough. That you are not enough.

Maybe it sounds like a constant inner critic that picks apart everything you do. Maybe it looks like perfectionism that keeps the bar just out of reach no matter how much you accomplish. Maybe it feels like fear, the fear of being judged, of failing, of being truly seen and found lacking.

You might have carried this for so long that it feels like just who you are. It is not. These are patterns. And patterns can change.

Where it comes from

This Did Not Come From Nowhere

Low self-esteem and the patterns that come with it, perfectionism, people-pleasing, fear of judgment, do not appear out of thin air. They develop over time, shaped by experiences, relationships, messages we received about who we are and what we are worth.

For many women, these patterns start early. A childhood environment where love felt conditional. A culture that told you your value was tied to how much you achieved, how little you asked for, how well you held everything together. Relationships that confirmed the story you already believed about yourself.

Over time, those messages become internalized. They stop sounding like something that was done to you and start sounding like the truth about who you are.

But they are not the truth. They are a story. And in therapy, we can start to rewrite it.

Who this is for

This Page Is for You If...

You are a woman in your 20s or 30s still figuring out who you are beneath all the roles and expectations that have been placed on you.

You are a mom who has spent years pouring into everyone around her and has slowly lost track of what she actually wants, needs, or values for herself. If motherhood is part of where you lost yourself, see my Motherhood & Identity page.

You are a professional woman who has built real success but privately ties her entire sense of worth to her accomplishments, and lives in quiet fear of the day that changes.

You are any woman who is tired of being her own harshest critic and is ready to build something more sustainable, a relationship with herself that does not depend on being perfect, productive, or endlessly giving. If a life change has shaken your sense of self, my Life Transitions page may also resonate, and if perfectionism and fear are driving anxiety, see Anxiety, Stress & Burnout.

How I help

What Self-Esteem Therapy Looks Like With Me

We will start by slowing down and getting curious about the patterns. Where did the inner critic come from? What is it actually trying to do? What beliefs about yourself have you been carrying that might not be as true as they feel?

This is not about toxic positivity or convincing yourself to feel good when you don’t. It is about building a more honest, more grounded, more compassionate relationship with yourself. One that does not depend on achieving the right things, earning the right amount of approval, or being everything to everyone all at once.

We will also work on the practical side. How to recognize when the inner critic is running the show. How to respond to fear and self-doubt in a way that moves you forward instead of keeping you stuck. How to start making choices that are actually aligned with what you want, not just what you think you should want.

I take an integrative, person-centered approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other relational and evidence-based methods, as I describe further on my About page. The work is collaborative, honest, and paced for you.

Virtual sessions are $150. In-person sessions are $180. I also accept Aetna, Cigna, Carelon Behavioral Health, and Optum/United Healthcare through Alma for virtual sessions. Superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement. Sessions are available virtually anywhere in Florida.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Therapy is one of the most effective ways to address low self-esteem. Together we will explore where these patterns came from, how they are showing up in your life today, and build a more grounded and compassionate relationship with yourself.
Perfectionism is often a response to low self-esteem. When we do not feel inherently worthy, we try to earn our worth through achievement, approval, and doing everything right. The problem is that the bar keeps moving, and no amount of doing enough ever quite feels like enough.
Common signs include a persistent inner critic that is hard to quiet, difficulty accepting compliments or acknowledging your own accomplishments, fear of failure or judgment that holds you back, people-pleasing and difficulty saying no, and a sense that no matter what you do it is never quite enough.
Yes. Christina Chong, LMFT offers self-esteem and personal growth therapy in-person in Miami, FL and virtually to clients throughout Florida.
Therapy goes deeper than coaching. While coaching tends to focus on goals and action steps, therapy explores the underlying beliefs, experiences, and patterns that are driving the way you see yourself. For lasting change in self-esteem, understanding the roots of those patterns matters as much as the practical strategies.
